Membership Category

TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP AND SUBSCRIPTION:

TYPES OF MEMBERS:

I. Life Members: Any medical practitioner who is registered under the Medical Council of India or any State Medical Council recognized by the Medical Council of India; and who is holding allopathic qualification recognized under Schedule I, II or III of the Indian Medical Council Act 1956 and its amendments; and who is practicing ophthalmology with post-graduate degree or diploma in ophthalmology, shall be eligible to apply for Life membership. He shall provide proof of residing and/or working in the state of West Bengal with an undertaking that on leaving the state of West Bengal for a period of more than 3 years, his membership may be transferred to the category of National or International membership as the case merits, by the Executive Committee of OSWB, till he is back again in the state of West Bengal and his application for readmission into the previous form of Life membership is accepted by the Executive Committee of the Society. It has to be ratified by the General Body in order to again enjoy the voting rights and other rights available only to the category of Life members.

II. National Members: Anyone who qualifies to apply for life membership but is not residing and/or working in the state of West Bengal will be eligible to apply for National membership.The National members shall enjoy all the privileges of Life members except that of voting in a meeting / election or holding any office / post in the Society or introducing new members. Any National member on fulfilling the residence and/or work eligibility parameters of Life members may apply with proof and undertaking, for readmission into Life category, and on acceptance by the Executive Committee, it has to be ratified by the General Body in order to enjoy the voting rights and other rights available only to the category of Life members.

III. International Members: Ophthalmologists from outside India who are registered with the official Medical Council of their respective country as qualified medical practitioners in the branch of Ophthalmology will be eligible to apply for International membership, provided there are no governmental restrictions.The International members shall enjoy all the privileges of Life members except that of voting in a meeting / election or holding any office / post in the Society or introducing new members. They will not receive any hard copies of circulars/notices etc. for which they will have to request separately and bear the costs involved in advance. Any International member on fulfilling all the eligibility parameters of Life members including the residence and/or work eligibility parameters may apply with proof and undertaking, for readmission into Life category, and on acceptance by the Executive Committee, it has to be ratified by the General Body in order to enjoy the voting rights and other rights available only to the category of Life members.

IV. Post Graduate Trainee (PGT)Members: The Post Graduate Trainee membership or PGT membership will be only for the specific applicants who are eligible. Any medical practitioner who is registered under the Medical Council of India or any State Medical Council recognized by the Medical Council of India; and who is holding allopathic qualification recognized under Schedule I, II or III of the Indian Medical Council Act 1956 and its amendments; and who is undergoing Post Graduate Degree or Diploma Training course in Ophthalmology from any recognized institution within the state of West Bengal shall be eligible to apply for PGT membership. The Post Graduate Trainees (PGTs) in Ophthalmology will be eligible for this type of membership only and it will be valid exactly till 3 years after the month of passing their PGT course during the tenure of which they have applied for membership (hereinafter called current PGT examination). These PGTs will be eligible to apply for Life membership or any other category as per their eligibility once they have passed the current post graduate degree or diploma in ophthalmology examination and will produce valid proof thereof when asked for. While applying for change in the category pf membership within three years after passing their current PGT examination, they will not pay any fees. The term of their PGT membership will automatically cease three years after they pass their current PGT examination. In the case of cessation they will have to apply fresh for membership and will pay the full eligible category fees along with admission fees. The PGT members after ratification in AGM shall enjoy all the privileges of Life members except that of voting in any election or meeting or introducing new members, and they will not be eligible for holding any office / post in the Society and will not be eligible for bringing any resolution in the meetings.

V. Honorary Members: Any eminent person whose connection with the Society is deemed desirable may, with his/her consent and recommendation by the Executive Committee, be elected an Honorary Member at a General Body Meeting of the Society provided that not less than two thirds of the members present vote for him/her. He/She shall be entitled to participate in all the activities of the Society, but he/she shall not be entitled to vote at any meeting / election of the Society or hold any office / post of the Society or introduce new members. They will not be sent any hard copies of circulars / notices etc.

 

SUBSCRIPTION FOR MEMBERSHIP:

Life Membership (Rs.3500 + GST @18% Total – Rs. 4130)
Post Graduate Trainee (Rs.2500 + GST @18% Total – Rs. 2950)
National (Rs.5500 + GST @ 18% Total – Rs. 6490)
International(Rs.10500 + GST @ 18% Total – Rs. 12390)
Change in the membership type at a later date will incur a fee of Rs.500 + GST @ 18%, except when PGT membership is changed to other eligible category within stipulated 3 years of passing their current PG examination – there will be no charges.
